Internship Program Overview

The purpose of the educational internship program at Mutual Ground is to provide an opportunity for students to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom in a professional context. Mutual Ground staff and supervisors play an important role as students begin to transition into to professional roles. This opportunity promises to benefit the student by providing an enriching learning opportunity and professional experience.

 

Our current internship opportunities include:

Intake / Screening Advocacy Intern

The Intake/Screening Advocacy Interns will work in varying capacities throughout the domestic violence program. Daily tasks may include: supporting victims and providing crisis intervention on the 24-hour hotline, screening potential clients for shelter and drop-in services, facilitating support groups (with staff present), responding to hospital calls, or other needs as they arise. 

Intake/Screening Advocacy Interns will be provided with direct supervision and support from the Residential Services Manager. The site supervisor is an Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional with more than 10 years of experience in the field of victim services.

 

Legal Advocacy Intern 

The Legal Advocacy Interns will work in varying capacities throughout the domestic violence court advocacy program. Daily tasks may include: supporting victims and providing crisis intervention on the 24-hour hotline; assisting clients with petitioning for an Order of Protection, Civil No-Contact Order, or other processes within the court systems; responding to hospital calls, or other needs as they arise. 

The Court Advocacy Intern will be provided with direct supervision and support from Legal Advocacy Program Manager. The site supervisor is an Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional with more than 10 years of experience in the field of victim services.

Bilingual Spanish/English preferred, but not required.

 

Youth & Family Counseling Intern (Graduate-Level Placements Only)

Youth & Family Counseling Interns will work in varying capacities throughout the family service program. Daily tasks may include: supporting victims and providing crisis intervention on the 24-hour hotline; providing individual or group counseling for children and their families; providing childcare support for clients who are in session or participating in support groups; working closely with the counseling services team to develop age-appropriate children’s activities, responding to hospital calls, or other needs as they arise. 

The Youth & Family Counseling Intern will be provided with direct supervision and support from the Family Services Manager. The site supervisor is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with several years of experience in working with children and their families.

Bilingual Spanish/English preferred, but not required.

 

Counseling Intern (Graduate-Level Placements Only)

Counseling Interns will work in varying capacities throughout the counseling services program. Daily tasks may include: supporting victims and providing crisis intervention on the 24-hour hotline; providing individual or group counseling for adult victims and their non-offending significant others; and working closely with the counseling services team to develop counseling techniques, responding to hospital calls, or other needs as they arise. 

The Counseling Intern will be provided with direct supervision and support from the Counseling Services Manager. The site supervisor is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with several years of experience in the field of victim services.

Bilingual Spanish/English preferred, but not required.

 

Marketing & Outreach Intern

The Marketing & Outreach Intern will support Mutual Ground’s mission by assisting the administrative team. Tasks may include: working with volunteers and volunteer groups, raising awareness through events and communications, supporting agency fundraisers, marketing our services and programs, assisting with in-kind donations, and offering support where needed to help those affected by domestic and sexual violence. The Marketing & Outreach Intern will be provided with direct supervision and support from the Volunteer Program Administrator. 

Bilingual Spanish/English preferred, but not required.
